Poland Population Censuses

The following is a list of Polish censuses provided by The Polish Genealogy Project <www.polishgeno.com/?page_id=10>. While some genealogists might find them helpful, they are not available online and are only accessible through on-site research in the archives or with the assistance of a professional researcher.

Poland, 1789: first nationwide census of population

Poland, 1808–1810: first (complete) general censuses of population in the Grand Duchy of Warsaw

Prussia, 1840: first general census of the population of the Grand Duchy of Poznan (then surveyed every three to five years until 1914)

Austria, 1857: first general census of population in Galicia; conducted again in 1869, 1880, 1890, 1900, and 1910

Russia, 1897: general census of population in the Congress Poland (the only one carried in that area until World War I)

Poland, 1921: first general census of the population of post-WWI Poland; conducted again in 1931

German-occupied Poland, 1943: summary census of population

Poland, 1946: first summary census of the population of post-WWII Poland; conducted again in 1950, 1960, 1970, 1978, 1988, and 2002
